  5. Democratic Congressmen in the mold of Senator Henry Jackson;
  6. of a heart attack; in Gaithersburg, Md. As a champion of U.S.
  7. involvement in the Vietnam War and of the B-1 bomber and the
  8. MX missile, Stratton was at war with many of his Democratic
  9. colleagues in the House. But during his three decades in
  10. Congress, the upstate New Yorker hewed to the orthodox liberal
  11. line on many issues, supporting school busing and economic
  12. sanctions against South Africa.
